Offering the Life-Changing Grace of Christ

Helping others . . .
Anniston First offers so many ways to be a part of the outreach into the community.
Here are just some of the ways you can help:

Knitting for Peace
A ministry that meets weekly to knit prayer shawls, blankets, and other hand-made items.  Each piece is prayed over before it is given away.

Groceries With Grace
Since June 2008, we have given out over 3000 bags of free groceries to families who meet certain criteria of need.

Glen Addie Breakfast
Volunteers provide a free, hot meal to children of the Glen Addie Community on Sunday mornings.  These children then have the opportunity to attend Sunday School and worship.

Soup Bowl

The Soup Bowl provides a hot meal to those who are needy.  Serve by working on a team that serves meals several times a year.  During January, our volunteers served over 460 people.

P.A.W.S.

A monthly visitation ministry where members of Anniston First, and their pets, visit the residents of NHC nursing home.

Interfaith Ministries
Interfaith Ministries  A coalition of more than 100 faith communities with the mission of coordination volunteers and resources to meet human needs in Calhoun County.  Their specific programs are:

The Open Door (Interfaith Ministries)
provides temporary refuge and assistance for the homeless.  They offer help in obtaining identification, transportation, shelter as well as providing a shower, use of a phone and computer.

Emergency Assistance (Interfaith Ministries)

provides assistance to persons who need a place to live, utility deposits, or payments to keep their utilities on.  The goal is to prevent homelessness.

Senior RX (Interfaith Ministries)

provides free services for the elderly and disabled for long-term prescription needs.

Dental Program (Interfaith Ministries)

Meals on Wheels (Interfaith Ministries)

Meals on Wheels provides a hot meal for the homebound in the community.  People are always needed to deliver meals one day a week.

Angel Tree Summer Day Camp (Interfaith Ministries)

A day camp is held each summer for area children with a parent in prison.  It is a time which children enjoy.  Serve by working at the day camp.

Christmas Clearing House (Interfaith Ministries)

A seasonal ministry that provides eligible families with gift certificates for food, clothing and toys.

Community Enabler

The Community Enabler works to coordinate help to needy families in the community. Workers are always needed to sort clothing or food for distribution.

Glen Addie Community Church

Volunteers provide breakfast for 40-50 children and adults on Sunday mornings.

JSU Wesley Foundation

A campus ministry of the United Methodist Church located at our local university.

Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child: Shoe Box Ministry

This global ministry brings joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the good news of God’s love.

AIDS Ministry

A ministry to help support our local AIDS clinic.  Our funding provides a resource for co-pays and costs of other (non-HIV) medications. This would include things like ear drops for ear infections, cortisone creams for allergic reactions, and anti-inflammatory medications. While co-pays for these medications may only cost $3 - $4 each, for many impoverished patients it is still unaffordable.
